The Raid. One Action Packed Movie. Not Really One For Your Gran.

I was kindly offered a preview screening via Madmen films to what has been a very popular film in Asia and around the globe at festivals called 'The Raid'.

Set in Jakarta's slums, a run down apartment block ran by a drug lord receives a swat team at dawn. Things don't quite go as planned and, well, just take a look at the pretty violent trailer for a taste of what the SWAT team realise what they have landed themselves in...

Directed by Welshman Gareth Evans this is a more than just a martial arts and guns piece, and has a unique style, humour, and direction, but oodles of fights and original action sequences keep this very fresh. Myself and the preview posse at the screening had a great time, and if a bit of action is for you, make sure you raid your local multiplex to hunt this down.

Google Play.Strategically smart, and it's not iTunes so it's a plus, but not for Australia.

Media_httpplaygooglec_wtdox

No more one app marketplace, one G book store, one G music account, it's all in one area now called Google Play. Games such as Need for Speed, Music from Lady Gaga and many others, ebooks, movies and android apps.

Strategically this is a better way forward, it's all online, mobile, and all centralised for all your media. (Hurry up with that Google TV dammit!)

That said apart from a few lucky Australians like me who have Google music, this new play service is pretty useless here. It's the Android market with some new wallpaper. Meh!

Ideally less fannying with the name Google, more on sorting out region restrictions and inconsistent pricing for music, books, and (lack of) movies.

Still it's not iTunes and a humongous lump of bloatware I must drag around download and be forced to sync with (which invariably wipes your device more often than not) so it gets a bloody big plus from me : )

The highly anticipated movie from Ridley Scott is teased here with a nod to TED.com. Although not a clip from the movie itself, the futuristic talk is given by Guy Pearce, who stars in the film, and offers some clues to the plotline of the 'Alien' related franchise...

Tron Legacy; Can this film look any sexier?? Watch Daft Punk's 'Derezzed'.

Like a shiny, shiny, super sexy gorgeous thing, Tron Legacy has been teasing us for over a year and a half with beautiful images and CGI. That time is coming soon for release and I really hope for once this thing can cope with the hype it's been building in geekland.

However, will that stop me from going or drooling like a dog about to be fed?

No.

Bring it already!!
