Ignorance Is 'i-bliss'? Android's 42% Dominance Of The US Smart Phone Market...

Media_httpwwwnashvill_daech

Despite Androids now 5.4% growth this quarter and now 42% dominance of the US smart phone market, (Apple 1% growth and 27% share of market) still many choose to remain deeply myopic in Europe and Australia to Androids viral growth.

Ignorance is 'i-bliss'?

Even ignoring those childish and bitter mobile patent wars from Apple & Microsoft towards...well, just about every mobile manufacturer, you can see why these two behemoths are trying to stop Google every.which.way.they.can.

I think this is the droid were looking for...

Photos - Adelaide. Underrated, Chilled, and packing some awesome wine.

Tracey and I took a short trip in September 2010 to Adelaide for our Anniversary. Only now just getting round to sorting photos, but over five days we went around several wineries (hic), ate out around the many excellent places in the city centre, and m'lady got to go to the the zoo to see Pandas. Adelaide is a great place, and still amongst the top ten cities in the world for quality of living, with some great shops and restaurants, and is definetly a five out of ten on the busy scale when compared to Melbournes mental eleven out of ten.

Don't let that put you off, a more relaxed pace is just what were after at the time, and Adelaide really is a great place to chill out, take your time and savour that wine : P

The Great Rock And Roll Swindle; iTunes Prices sting Australian's 69% more than the USA.

Chit500

One piece of bloated software I really dislike is iTunes. Like the child catcher from chitty-chitty bang bang, it lures in those less technically minded only to have things turn sour if you don't drink all the iKool aid it offers.

All looks delicious and oh so very shiny, especially with your shiny new Apple iGadget. And it'll stay that way, unless you decide to change your mind or move elsewhere or to a new, non-iDevice. Then, the Disneyfied walled garden you've been lured in to, suddenly is not so easy for average Joe or Joesphine punter to get out of...

As the computer guy to turn to for my family and some friends, I all too often am asked how to get music or movies out of, or play on, other devices or computers. Or to be able to get music or apps from the USA or access other services that iTunes all too often region locks you out of. I try to tell them how to do it, but frankly I think it's designed to be far too complex, and I see them glaze over as I tell them how to hack it all, and they mostly all decide it'll be simpler to just...not...bother.

To me what it lacks is customer choice. It's no longer your media your buying, it's 'their' media and you'll just have to suck it up princess. Didn't you read that new (on mobile) 56 page terms and conditions when you installed? Your not having it easily, you'll have it their way, or things will be very bad in iLand.

Don't get me wrong, Apple make great customer products with some amazing user experiences, but iTunes, it's pricing, and region locking always gets in the way.

An Apple physical product to me is like meeting a really, really hot girl. Like, wow. She's awesome. 'Hawtness' personified! However, if you want to 'interface' with this girl in anyway shape or form, well...your gonna have to go through her rather large, and deeply unattractive 'complex' friend iTunes, every.single.time. Apple tries to tell us she has y'know 'a great personality'...but I think even they would dump her if she wasn't making them so rich.

Add in a fat 30% revenue for all apps bought straight to Apple (with that region lock fat on top) and you can see why they won't change the iTunes filtered funnel in a hurry.Go on, have a glass of iKool aid, it's shiny! So not a major surprise, it's all about money. And this great article here, shows just how much your stung for your media, and overall why they want to region lock you in and keep you milked. I kinda say more power to them. If we are daft enough to buy it and put it up with it, (or care) they why should they change?

The irony is when you think about it, all these things iTunes sells are virtual bits and bytes. So they really are the modern day Sex Pistols, as they have manged to achieve the great(est) rock and roll swindle there ever has been.

Photos - Great Barrier Reef

Part of a recent trip up to Queensland, we stayed in the beautiful Hamilton Island and visited other areas of the Whitsundays, but always key decision to the trip was getting to go to the Great Barrier Reef.

On many peoples top ten places in the world list, we'd put this off twice before, but decided this time was a must.

Some snorkelling, followed by scuba diving, and finally a flight over Heart Shaped reef, made a day you just.don't.easily.forget. Pictures and a short video give an idea, but don't do it justice. And if you've been putting off going, start planning to go, it's something pretty special.

Super Delicious Ingredient Force! Another brand gets the marketing right.

Look at your brand, now back to Taco Bell, now back to your brand.. now back to..Taco Bell. Sadly, not everything can be inventive as Old Spice, but we are sure as hell getting some great brands like Old Spice and recently Taco Bell and Toyota engaging in new, fresh, and just plain kick ass, non corporate bullshit ways. And, they are benefiting from it all greatly. I'm on a horse.

Okay enough of that ad, I promise, but see how ingrained it has become?

So the above video is for Taco bell, doing a retro 70's stylee, Saturday morning, badly drawn and acted cartoon angle. Just the stuff I grew up on and lusted to watch more of, and internet audiences love to share. Clichéd to say viral, but a well known label, and fitting.

This video is the second in a series. #1 got half a million views with very little effort. The scripts are very on the money and unashamedly go after a hip, adult swim and very stoner audience, especially with their tongue in cheek 'munchies' take.

Add in the 1st episode, a fun retro web site (scroll to the right, and keep scrolling), some nice facebook and twitter accounts for the superheroes, and all done in very subtle Taco Bell branding throughout.

One huge problem about all these great ads recently. The brand awareness, like the internet is global, and yet the Toyota, Old Spice and Taco Bell are all for USA products. Well, they are least building awareness and desire for the products should they come to Australia. (Come back Taco Bell, I love you!)

We really do need some superheroes to sort this regionalism out. To the El Camino!

Photos - Whitehaven Beach, Queensland Australia

Whilst on holiday recently, we stopped off at Whitsunday Island. It reportedly has 6km of the finest sand in the world. Reason being it consists of nearly 100% pure Silica which gives it a truly bright white colour. Apparently it was used in the construction of the Hubble telescope it's just that good.

Sadly the videos I shot are just unbareable to watch due to the reflection, so picture slide show is all I have below, but even they don't do this beautiful beach justice.

Photos - Whitsundays; Hamilton Island. (Aka Fantasy Island!)

So we've been in Melbourne nearly three years, and we never truly went away on a real holiday, as coming here was one big expensive holiday lets face it. However, we were long overdue a break, knackered, pale and unbelievably tired, so my wife (T) and I hopped on a plane early one morning from Melbourne, and literally two hours later, were landing in, and on, Australia's answer in my mind to Hawaii, (only less commercial), Hamilton Island

Smothered in palm trees, luxury apartments, cool blue water, coral reefs and a perfect 25° (in July!), it's paradise, and a great gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.

Just the thing T & I needed to unwind and get work stresses off our minds, and soon enough we began to relax, unwind and rest, aided by a plethora it seemed of ever present cocktails, awesome food, tons to do, and golf carts to usher our fat asses around this ultra cool paradise. Spent the best part of a week here and I loved it. More photos to come of our further adventures through the Whitsunday's soon.
